District Grand Royal Arch in Tasmania

HOLY ROYAL ARCH IN TASMANIA

SUPREME GRAND ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER OF SCOTLAND

THE DISTRICT OF TASMANIA

Scottish Royal Arch Masonry celebrated its 100 years of existence within Tasmania in October 2008. Prior to the Scottish influence Royal Arch Masonry existed as part of the English and Irish constitutions during the early European settlement of the island.

The Holy Royal Arch is one of two other orders mentioned in the Tasmanian Craft Constitution under Section 4. I quote “ Freemasonry shall include the following degrees, viz: The Entered apprentice, the Fellow Craft, the Master Mason, the Mark Master Mason, the Excellent Master and the Supreme Degree of the holy Royal Arch.”.

Scottish Royal Arch Freemasonry in Tasmania includes the Mark Degree, Excellent Master and Royal Arch degrees. There are also two appendant degrees attached to the Scottish Royal Arch and these are the Lodge and Council which covers the Royal Ark Mariner degree and the Degrees of the Captivity known as the Red Cross or Babylonish Pass. Also the Cryptic Council which covers the Royal Master, Select Master and Super Excellent Master degrees. Admission to the Lodge and Council and Cryptic degrees is requisite on the applicant holding the Royal Arch Degree.

Members seeking admission to Royal Arch Degree Freemasonry in the Scottish Constitution must be Master Masons of good standing and a continuing members of a craft lodge in the Tasmanian jurisdiction.

October 2008 saw the split of Scottish Freemasonry in Tasmania into the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Tasmania in the north of the state and the continuance of the Scottish connection under the District Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Tasmania in the south.

The Tasmanian District of the Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland is headed by a Grand Superintendent who is appointed for a five year term.

The District Grand Chapter of Tasmania has a ceremonial team which consists of a number of Royal Arch Masons who have sought nomination for various offices and who as a team conduct the installation ceremonies for the Chapters, Lodge and Council and Cryptic Councils.

The Scottish Constitution Royal Arch for the District of Tasmania is currently represented by.
