The Public Relations Fund (PRF) was created in order that Lodges, Masonic Groups and even individual lodge members may seek contributions from the fund for the purpose of assisting in the promoting or advertising of Freemasonry in Tasmania. Application Forms for the funding of projects are available on the Freemasons Tasmania Website, also from the Grand Secretary as well as from Lodge Secretaries.

Completed applications for projects are to be forwarded in the first instance to the Grand Secretary who will forward them to the Grand Lodge Public Relation Committee (GLPR Committee) for investigation, evaluation and recommendation. Following its examination, the GLPR Committee will forward projects exceeding $2000 to the Board of General Purposes (BofGPs) for approval or rejection. Projects up to $2000 will be dealt with within the administration of the GLPR Committee.

Subsequent to approval by either the BofGPs or the GLPR Committee, funds will be forwarded to the applicant together with a Project Completion Report, which is to be returned to the Grand Secretary at the finalisation of the project or its purchase together with any unexpended funds. Approximately $8000 is available annually for the funding of Public Relations projects.

In conformity with the Freemasons Tasmania Strategic Plan the following are areas, although not exhaustive, in which the PRF may be used:

Use of the Media in all its forms to advertise or promote Freemasonry and its ideals and achievements

Provision of Street Signs to indicate where Freemasonry Tasmania centres and halls are located

Funding for and design costs for the provision of Masonic information signs and notice boards in towns or other places

Facilitate the operation of Freemasons Tasmania Website

Assist in the operation and funding of approved Friends’ Nights by advertisements and assistance with costs

Assist with the funding for advertising Masonic Centre Open Days and transport of suitable boards, signs, projectors and literature

Purchase of PR aids such as display boards, projections screens, power – point projectors etc

Provide for and arrange professionally designed Masonic brochures, videos, DVD’s, television campaigns and cinema advertising etc

Assist funding the production of the Freemasonry Tasmania magazine if required

Lodges and/or Brethren are encouraged to submit their projects for consideration under this aspect of the Freemasons Tasmania Strategic Plan bearing in mind that the GLPR Committee would very much appreciate early advice regarding requests for promotional funding, for promotional material or for the temporary loan of public relations items, all of which are listed on the Website under the heading "Items held by the Public Relations Committee"

It is recommended that Lodges make greater use of the facilities available to them via the Freemasons Tasmania Website in order to fully publicise their activities.

The GLPR Committee reports quarterly to the BofGPs. The GLPR Committee enjoys the courtesy of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania where its committee meetings are held in the Club’s Board Room on the third Thursday of each month at 10am followed by lunch at noon in the Club’s dining room. Brethren with ideas and suggestions are cordially invited to attend either or both functions.

The GLPR Committee members are V.Wor. Bro. Alan A’church (Convener), R.Wor. Bro. Max Linton, R.Wor. Bro. Robert Dick, R.Wor. Bro. Philip Spinks, V.Wor. Bro Joe Carroll, Wor. Bro. David Baldwin, Wor.
