Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapters of Tasmania
(08/02/2012)

The Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Tasmania was established 4th October, 2008 when the First Grand Principal of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland, Most Excellent Companion Charles Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont, consecrated the Supreme Grand Chapter. Prior to this date the founding Royal Arch Chapters operated within the jurisdiction of the District of Tasmania under the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland. It holds its Annual Convocation each year in either September or October in various locations in the north of the State.

There are 7 Royal Arch Chapters operating under the Supreme Grand Charter namely St Andrew Chapter No.1 TC; (Launceston); The Devon Chapter No.2 TC, (Devonport); Mt Lyell Chapter No.3 TC (Queenstown); Ramsay No.4 TC (Burnie); Ellesmere No. 5 TC (Scottsdale) St Andrew Lewis Chapter No. 6 TC (Launceston) and Bass Strait Chapter No. 7 TC (Currie, King Island). Membership is approximately 210 Companions.

With the formation of the Supreme Grand Chapter the opportunity was taken to permit the integration of former Lodges and Councils and Cryptic Councils into the workings of the Chapters. Thus, the degrees worked in the former Appendant Orders have been incorporated into the St Andrew, The Devon, and St Andrew Lewis Chapters. Remaining Chapters have yet to determine their involvement with these Appendant Degrees. It is planned to have a demonstration team available to visit these Chapters to confer Degrees on any Companion desirous of receiving them.

To become a Companion of a Royal Arch Chapter requires that the applicant be a Master Mason of good standing and a member of a Craft Lodge under a constitution recognised by the Grand Lodge of Tasmania. A Companion must maintain his membership of a Craft Lodge unless dispensation has been granted by the First Grand Principal.

The Degrees currently administered by the Supreme Grand Chapter are:-

The Royal Arch Series namely: The Mark Master, Excellent Master, Royal Arch, Installed Third Principal, Installed Second Principal, Installed First Principal and Installed Mark Master Degrees

The Lodge and Council Series namely: The Royal Ark Mariner, Commander Noah, Babylonish Pass or Red Cross, Knight of the Sword, Knight of the East, Knight of the East and West and Chief and President.

The Cryptic Rite Series: namely The Royal Master, Select Master, Most Excellent Master, Super Excellent Master and Thrice Illustrious Master.
