Grand Master
Most. Wor. Bro. John William Slore

 

The Grand Master, M.W. Bro. John Slore is Tasmania’s 38th Grand Master.
        
His election as the Grand Master Elect for 2017 was announced at the August 2016 Grand Lodge Communication by the Grand Master, M.W. Bro. Allan Sangwell.  He was installed into the position at the Grand Installation held at Hobart’s Wrest Point Casino on the 24th February 2017. M.W. Bro Slore has an extensive Masonic background having been a member for 34 years

He was initiated into Centenary Lodge No. 54 on the 12th November 1982, progressing through offices, culminating in his Installation as Worshipful Master on 38th Birthday on the 14th April 1989.

M.W. Bro. Slore was again installed as Worshipful Master of Centenary Lodge in April 1990 until the Lodge amalgamated with St. Georges and St. John’s Lodges to form the new Lodge Launceston No. 2 in September 1990.

M.W. Bro. Slore was installed as Worshipful Master of Lodge Launceston on the 25th September 1995.

His progression through Grand Lodge Offices commenced in 1994 when he was appointed as a Grand Steward.

He has been Grand Tyler, Grand Standard Bearer, Grand Deacon, Grand Director of Ceremonies, Grand Chaplain and was Grand Warden in 2003.

In 2010 M.W. Bro. Norm Cooper conferred the rank of Past Deputy Grand Master upon M.W. Bro. Slore in recognition of his service to Freemasonry.  M.W. Bro. Slore was a member of the Board of General Purposes and sub- committees for 9 years and a member of the Board of Benevolence for 7 years.

M.W. Bro. Slore is also active in other Orders of Freemasonry.

He has two adult children, Joshua and Samantha, one Grand-daughter, Billie Grace and his wife is Dorothy (Dot).

M.W. Bro. Slore is also a member of the Masonic Motorcycle Association of Australia.

 

 

Deputy Grand Master
R.W. Bro. Phillip Frederick Oddie, ODS

At the August 2016 Communications, the then Grand Master Elect, R.W. Bro. John Slore announced the appointment of R.W. Bro Phillip Frederick Oddie as Deputy Grand Master Designate.

R.W. Bro. Oddie has an extensive Masonic background having been a member of the Craft for 47 years.  He is a fourth generation Mason, his paternal great grandfather arriving in Tasmania in the early 1880’s as a member of Lodge of St. John No 67 Irish Constitution.  His maternal grandfather and paternal great uncle were also members, as were his father and three maternal uncles.

R.W. Bro. Oddie was initiated into Pacific Lewis Lodge 38TC (as a Lewis,) on the 11th August 1969 together with his younger brother Stephen.  His late father Fred occupied the Chair for the evening, making it a memorable evening for all.

He progressed through the offices of the Lodge (with some breaks due to work commitments) and was finally Installed as Worshipful Master of the Lodge on the 12th December 1983.

When Pacific Lewis Lodge 38TC consolidated with Pacific Lodge 5TC he affiliated with Lodge Macquarie 87TC before affiliating on his retirement with The Pacific Lodge 5TC.

R.W. Bro. Oddie’s service with Grand Lodge commenced with membership of the Grand Lodge Finance Sub-Committee for several years prior to becoming Grand Treasurer in 2002.

He became a member of the Board of General Purposes in 2014 and was elected President of the Board in January 2016.  He has also been an active member of the Southern Grand Lodge Ceremonial Team over those years.  He was a Member of the 1990 Grand Lodge Centenary Celebration Organising Committee and was responsible for the Finance Portfolio.

In December 1995 M.W. Bro. Paul Hodges conferred the Order of Distinguished Service on R.W. Bro. Oddie for his services to the Freemason’s Homes of Southern Tasmania and Aged Care in Tasmania.  In May 2009 M.W. Bro. Norm Cooper conferred the rank of Past Grand Warden for his services to Grand Lodge.

He was a Foundation Member of MASCOT (Masonic and Social Club of Tasmania) and has been Secretary since 2005.

RW Bro Oddie was educated at Hobart High School and on matriculating, joined a Hobart firm of Public Accountants before moving to the Australian Taxation Office where he established himself in the Assessing/Investigation areas.

In 1975 he was seconded to the Health Insurance Commission as part of a three man team which was responsible for the introduction of the original Medicare/Medibank into Tasmania.

After this secondment he returned, in 1980, to the Australian Taxation Office in a variety of senior management roles.  During this time (from 1985 to 1990) he was a Board Member and Treasurer of the Freemason’s Homes of Southern Tasmania.

In late 1990 he made a complete career change and became the CEO of the Freemason’s Homes of Southern Tasmania.  He was also a Member of the Australian Institute of Management and Australian Institute of Company Directors.

R.W. Bro. Oddie is married to Anne and has two adult sons, Chris and David and four grandchildren, Mike, Henry, Jake and Emily.

He has always enjoyed sports of all kinds and played 1st Grade Hockey for many years (years ago,) coached his sons in Soccer and was a Committee Member, Secretary Treasurer of their Soccer Club and was awarded Life Membership of the South Hobart Football (Soccer) Club in 2002.  He now supports his grandchildren in their sporting activities, Soccer, Football, Cricket, Swimming, Netball and Dancing.  In his spare time he enjoys Boating, Fishing, Gardening, Travelling, Good Company and ‘a Good Red Wine.’

He is a Past President and is currently Secretary/Treasurer of the John Bowen Beef Steak and Burgundy Club.
